The Aftermarket World of Projectors
What matters the most when it comes to projectors? Well, I can only give my opinion here and I’m pretty basic for the most part. I’m not into plastic projectors at all, with the fluctuation of heat and climate change, plastic does not hold up very well over time. If you are using BI-Xenon and the flap gets stuck open on one or breaks, lol If you are purchasing an aftermarket headlight and it is already equipped with projectors, I recommend researching the quality of them and the bulbs they were using as well before you actually make a purchase. The quality of most of the Aftermarket Headlights have less than desirable results, some are better than others.
You will hear the majority of people take the standpoint that HID is brighter and work best with Projector Headlights. I’m a firm believer that LED technology will do well if it is in the right projector, they actually make LED Projectors! I will say it can be a lot easier to get better results with HID Bulbs in a stand projector that a Halogen Bulb came out of. If you truly want LED Projector Headlights that it may be better if you can purchase the bulb and Projector altogether if possible. It all comes to the desired results you are looking to achieve and the actual build of the headlights and the brightness of course. The amount of actual usable light and the even beam spread of the projector throughout the light pattern is the most important part of the projector.
If you have the opportunity to retrofit the options are endless and with the right light combination unbelievable controlled brightness can be delivered from your headlights.
Best LED Projectors for Retrofit:
Morimoto Matchbox high beam/low beam Retrofit Projector with / Shrouds
THE PRODUCT; Morimoto Matchbox Bi-xenon Projector is the worlds smallest projector that has both low and high beam capabilities. With the threaded mounted shaft and extremely compact size, these go where no projector has gone before! Literally…
INSTALLATION: Easily the smallest bi-xenon capable projector on the planet, it’s a technical marvel something like this can be retrofitted into a fog light!
PERFORMANCE HIGHLIGHTS: With a pre-installed clear lens and their flat cutoff shields, their light output is on par with any other dedicated fog light projector that’s this small; Plenty of foreground light and a bonus high beam function make them an excellent addition to any existing retrofit in the main headlights.
INSTALLATION SUMMARY: Regardless of the application, these are the most likable it really doesn’t get much easier! Just remove the headlight lens, insert the threaded mounting shaft through the pre-existing hole in the back of the reflector, hand-tighten, check rotation, tighten, and re-seal headlights. Minimal cutting will probably be involved, but you’ll find the results well worth it!
Profile All-in-one Projector & LED
PROFILE: The Automotive Aftermarket’s best name in LED Lighting; and when it came time to build a bi-xenon, there’s no better name in the market than Morimoto to make it happen. So working hand in hand with the industry experts, Profile is working hard to deliver the performance that we all expect. The Bi-Lens D2S is based on Morimoto’s D2S 3.0 platform that retrofitters often miss for all the right reasons and we have good news, it’s back as a Profile exclusive product!
THE LENS: The wider re-designed reflector bowl concentrates the hotspot directly under the step for intense performance but also plenty of width. The cutoff line is crisp, clean, and full of brilliant color flicker. Smaller projectors will struggle to compete with the Profile Bi-Lens D2S, as they will easily outshine smaller projectors like the Mini H1. Capable of producing both low and high beam patterns, this is the only unit you’d need to retain full functionality of your headlights.
INSTALLATION: Like the popular Mini H1’s, the Profile Bi-Lens D2S shares the same threaded shaft design at the rear of the reflector bowl to ease installation, improve versatility, and rids the need to cut and glue the headlight reflector to mount the new projector in place – which nobody can argue against. The Bi-Lens D2S just bolts onto your reflector bowls and away you go to blast the streets with a ton of bright but controlled light.
LENS OPTIONS: The optional square lens, with its modern shape, is for those looking for something unique without compromising light output. Though the shroud options are more limited for the square lens, there are enough to keep your options open and build a really nice retrofit for your truck (or car) with square-shaped reflectors. The projectors are also available with a more traditional 3” round lens, that will accept all shrouds. Both versions are 100% optically clear so there’s no need for a further upgrade. There is no need for centric rings to mount shrouds either.
QUALITY: No other “full size” projector comes close to the compact geometry of the D2S Bi-Lens. Stripped down to no more material than what’s essential, they are supremely small in terms of height, are very shallow, and no wider than need be. Their traditional 3” lens gives them a certain presence when mounted inside of the headlights – but if you’re tight on space or simply want to avoid trimming / extra mods at all costs – then the Bi-Lens D2S is the way to go.

OSRAM LED ALL-IN-ONE PROJECTOR
OEM Manufacturers finally caught on to what the aftermarket demanded, and Osram stepped up to the plate to produce the first Bi-LED projector retrofit kit from an OEM!
BI-LED Internalized drivers power Osram LEDs inside to the tune of approximately 2000lm/ea. The high beam is a shutter-free system using warmer Osram LED chips and separate internal optics to focus light down-range.
SIMPLE WIRING: Inputs of each side are only three wires. Wire these to an H4 / H13 / 9007 plug and plug ’em right up. No harness required!* (*Except for vehicles with finicky wiring or CANBUS bulb-out detection systems).
OEM QUALITY: If you’re putting together the most modern retrofit possible and money is no object, we think the Osram LEDDriving Bi-LED projectors are a fantastic choice. Sure with other Bi-LED’s making headway in the market – but Osram’s OEM technology is unmatched!

Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 BiXenon
TAKE A LOOK >>> Morimoto Mini H1 7.0 BiXenon
BI-XENON PROJECTORS: Morimoto’s new Mini H1 7.0, was an instant winner upon launch. Representing the first full overhaul of the Mini H1 since their launch, it’s one of the most advanced headlight projectors in the world today. Revised optics paired with a cast-curved cutoff shield produces one of the widest low beam patterns we’ve ever seen and a high beam that will easily go the distance.
Kuria Optic clear lenses maximize intensity throughout and keep the cutoff line sharp, colorful, and attractive. New side-action solenoids are more than 3x stronger than the old and fussy vertically-sprung units. Result: Maximum light on the ground, zero glare to oncoming traffic.
HID BALLASTS: Morimoto’s XB ballasts are a functional work of art. While the industrial-edge design by California native Artur Saakyan looks great from the outside, they’re packed with too much modern tech on the inside to cover it all in one place. Their DSP 3.0 circuit maximizes reliability, input and output efficiency. Their ability to warm the bulbs up to full operating intensity quickly is matched by few. Aftermarket HID ballasts aren’t all the same, and the XB’s make that clear in almost every category.
H1 HID BULBS: Morimoto will out-perform any alternatives on the market when installing in projector-based headlights…and it shows. We admit the latest generation XB HID bulbs are pretty impressive when compared to other bulbs, and even older Morimoto bulbs. At the heart of the XB bulbs is their perfectly-aligned 100% Philips quartz glass capsule that houses high-quality halide salts from German-supplier Messer. In our annual lux comparison test, they produced nearly the same luminosity (intensity) as the industry benchmark Osram CBI bulbs at 5500K.
PRECISION BULB HOLDERS: Designed by Morimoto in California, the new MotoHo1der utilizes a three-piece design that’s way more effective but virtually no bigger overall than the old clip setup. The clever three-piece design provides even pressure on the back of the bulb, ensuring perfect alignment. To be honest, we think it’s the single best upgrade to the projector that’s ever been conceived since it helps make the most of the awesome 7.0’s on the road. Well worth the extra few bucks in the grand scheme of things!
